Hamilton Sundstrand continues to make big inroads into the civil auxiliary power unit (APU) market, announcing major orders from three leading carriers.
Avianca of Colombia has selected the company’s APS 3200 for the 36 Airbus A320-family narrowbodies that it has on order, plus 30 options. China Southern Airlines wants the system for its fleet of 50 new A320s. And Lufthansa has ordered it for 30 new A319s, A320s and A321s.

China Southern is one of the world’s largest operators of Hamilton Sundstrand APUs. In addition to the A320 fleet, it operates them in its Boeing 737s, 747-400s and Embraer ERJ 145s and has selected them for its Boeing 787s and Airbus A380s. Lufthansa has the company’s APUs in 737s and 747-400s and has ordered a Hamilton Sundstrand design for its A380s.

APS 3200 has accumulated 13 million hours of service and 15m cycles since entering service on the A320. It is built by Hamilton Sundstrand Power Systems in San Diego, California.
