San Diego, California-based Hamilton Sundstrand Power Systems has announced an order worth approximately $100 million to supply the US Navy with ground carts to start aircraft on board ships and at land bases. Tom Ledgerwood, general manager of defence programmes for the company, said the order covered an initial 49 ground carts, with follow-on requirements providing a total of 354 units over the next four years.
Commercial
The equipment uses Hamilton Standard's commercial APS 2000 auxiliary power unit installed in the commercial ground cart marketed by partner Rheinmetall Landsysteme of Kiel, Germany. The US Navy variant repackages the existing commercial unit into a smaller and lower profile platform that is mountable on the navy's shipboard tractors and land-based trailers.
