Dads all over Europe will have opened gifts with varying degrees of delight yesterday. You can bet your life, however, that Igor Sikorsky would have been thrilled with son Sergei’s Father’s Day tribute to him.

Visitors to the Paris Air Show can snatch a peek of what it must have been like for Sikorsky senior to fly the prototype helicopter, or to chew the fat with Charles Lindbergh. Sergei is giving a special presentation ‘Recollections of a Pioneer’ at the United Technologies stand (Hall 5, B19-20) at 11am on Monday and Wednesday and at 2pm on Thursday.

“It’s the story of the development of the helicopter and aviation as seen through the eyes of Igor Sikorsky”, explains Sergei Sikorsky. Igor Sikorsky built the world’s first practical helicopter, the VS-300, as well as a series of classic flying boats.
