Canada's Harmony Airways is expanding its fleet from three to four Boeing 757-200s as it prepares to start new services to Hawaii in December. The Vancouver-based carrier is also in talks with China Eastern Airlines to start codeshare services to China this year, says Harmony president and chief executive Gary Collins.

The latest 757 is the carrier's first to be leased from GE Capital Aviation Services and will enter service next month, Collins says.

Harmony in May became the second Canadian airline after Air Canada to win designation to fly to China. Collins says the carrier expects to strike a codeshare agreement with an unspecified Chinese carrier within two months, adding that China Eastern, which already has an interline agreement with Harmony, is one of the airlines with which it is holding talks.

China Eastern "may well be" the codesharing partner, Collins reveals, adding: "We're in discussions. We haven't concluded anything yet." Harmony has said it is in talks with Airbus and Boeing to acquire a long-range fleet to start flights to China in 2006. The carrier may start the services with a fleet of Airbus A330/A340s or Boeing 777s before eventually introducing six to eight Airbus A350s or Boeing 787s when they become available.
