Vancouver-based Harmony Airways is in talks to acquire a long-haul fleet of six to eight Airbus A350s or Boeing 787s as it prepares to start flights to China, writes Andrzej Jeziorski.

Airline president and chief executive Gary Collins says that the talks include bringing in interim aircraft, which may be A330/A340s or 777s, to start operating the route in the third quarter of 2006. "It will probably be a lease arrangement until the other aircraft are available," Collins says. "We could end up with the interim lift solution being a larger aircraft than is ideal."

Discussions also include new single-aisle types, possibly Airbus A319s or Boeing 737-700 or -800s, for Harmony's shorter routes. This may lead to the replacement of the carrier's fleet of three 757-200s, two of which are owned and one leased.
