Seven UK Royal Air Force BAE Systems GR7 ground-attack aircraft from RAF Cottesmore were deployed to Bardufoss in northern Norway on 23 January for Exercise Snow Falcon 1. The aircraft were drawn from the RAF's 1 and 4 Squadrons, but were crewed by personnel from the former unit, which will undertake the first two-week phase of the exercise. Crews from 4 Sqn will then participate in Snow Falcon 2, before returning the Harriers to Cottesmore on 20 February. Nine aircraft were painted in the arctic scheme for the exercise, with two Harriers provided for ground spares for the deployment.
