Sonex Research is converting small gasoline engines to burn kerosene-based heavy fuels under contracts from unidentified US and international unmanned air vehicle developers. Conversion involves a modified combustion chamber and starting system.

The Annapolis, Maryland-based company has won a follow-on contract from a US customer for pre-production qualification of a converted two-stroke engine following the February proof-of-concept demonstration of a prototype running on JP-5 jet fuel.
