The Malaysian government has given its support to the three-day Heli-Asia '98 exhibition to be held in Kuala Lumpur in October.

The show will be opened by Malaysian Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

The event, which follows the success of Heli-Asia '96, will focus on helicopters for both military and civil markets and will feature static and flight demonstrations.

A spokesman for the event says: "Although the current Asian economy is suffering difficulties, long-term strategic plans will ensure that this region still offers great potential for future developments in the helicopter market.

"Heli-Asia is a 'must attend' for all those seriously considering their future in what will continue to be a prosperous market."

Industry leaders including Denel, DERA, GEC-Marconi and Sikorsky will be sponsoring workshops alongside the exhibition.
