EADS Defence Electronics and Thales have received contracts worth a combined €200 million ($245 million) from Eurocopter to manufacture self-protection equipment for the Eurocopter Tiger attack and NH Industries NH90 utility helicopters.

The EADS-led team will supply around 500 helicopter electronic warfare suites incorporating laser and radar warning receivers and missile approach warning systems for integration with aircraft now on order for Australia, Finland, France, Germany, Italy and Portugal. MBDA-supplied chaff and flare dispensers will be included. Final deliveries are set for 2012.

EADS and Thales are involved in other collaborative self-protection projects, including the flying laser self-protection system against heat-seeking missiles, details of which were disclosed last month (Flight International, 24 February-1 March).
