Embraer subsidiaries Bradar and Savis announced beginning of global cooperation with Rockwell Collins on the opening day of the Latin American Aerospace and Defence (LAAD) in Rio de Janeiro on 4 April.
“Embraer has great radar products and together it will be possible for us to cover the global market. This is a partnership that will bring Brazilian technology to the US supply chain”, says Colin Mahoney, Rockwell Collins’ senior vice-president for International and Service Solutions.
This partnership is expected to leverage Savis’ and Bradar’s sales around the world.
According to Jackson Schneider, chief executive Embraer Defense & Security, this new “US-Brazilian commercial partnership is only possible because the three companies’ product lines have minimum overlap with each other, which is the reason why the potential benefits are so great”.
Schneider also mentioned that the companies have a long history of working together with Embraer having a 35-year history in the US market and Rockwell Collins a 40-year operation in Brazil.
“This is a two-way partnership,” says Schneider.
The first identified opportunity is to integrate Bradar’s Saber 20 ground radar to Rockwell Collins’ FireStorm portable solution. According to the companies this solution could be further integrated with the Super Tucano turboprop close air support aircraft currently being evaluated in the US Air Force’s OA-X evaluations.
The full scope of this partnership is still to be defined. “What we have here is nothing but the first steps , there is much more walking needed,” Schneider says.
