Elbit Systems' US subsidiary EFW is to operate a Silver Arrow Hermes 450 unmanned air vehicle system at the Joint UAV Joint Test and Evaluation (JUAV-JT&E) centre at NAS Fallon, Nevada. Silver Arrow is also an Elbit company. The deal follows a series of validation flights with the Hermes 450.

By early July, more than a dozen missions had been flown in support of US Navy carrier air wing training, as well as JUAV test and evaluation exercises. The JUAV work will include operations with the four US armed services.

Meanwhile, Elbit rival Israel Aircraft Industries (IAI)has signed a teaming deal with Northrop Grumman for joint development and production of electro-optic UAV payloads. IAI's Tamam division and the US company will offer products under the "Raven Eye" name, with the teaming intended to improve the pair's ability to compete for emerging US Army programmes.
