Film buffs may well already be familiar with San Bernardino International (SBD) airport in Southern California – but the chances are that they don’t realise it.

Although the airport is becoming equally well known for the rapid growth of its air cargo business, it has also been used as an aviation location in movies such as The Aviator, Terminator 3, X Files and The Fast and the Furious.

Situated a mere 100km from Los Angeles, SBD also provides a great location for air cargo and logistics management for companies doing businesses in Los Angeles, Southern California, Mexico and the US inter-mountain regions of Denver, Salt Lake City, Las Vegas and Phoenix.

Centrally located to the east of Los Angeles International airport (LAX), SBD is surrounded by major interstate freeways; is in a congestion-free air corridor; and is located within two miles of a major rail network.

The airport’s director of economic development & marketing, Penny Chua, says that the airport offers significant advantages for companies wishing to avoid the congestion and high costs associated with other California gateway airports.

She says: “SBD offers speedy customs clearance, abundant aircraft ramp space, ample room for new development opportunities - and expansion - in a secure and modern business environment. The airport is a designated foreign trade zone so special economic development tax incentives are available for new airfreight projects. Also, as it’s owned and managed by the local communities, the airport has strong local support for both current and future developments.

“With a newly-reconstructed 10,000ft (3,408m) runway and available hangar facilities, SBD has the region’s lowest airport user fees and has the ability to accommodate Stage 2 aircraft. It’s also the ideal location for speciality air cargo charters with its hassle-free environment.” And as SBD is not in a densely-developed area, 24-hour operations are possible with only limited curfews/operational restrictions.
