Eurocopter has won a €271 million contract to supply 10 medium-sized EC725 helicopters to the French special forces for delivery between 2004 and 2006. The contract includes customisation and support. The EC725 is a military variant of the extended-range civil EC225, developed from the Cougar Mk2.
It features a new, five-bladed Spheriflex main rotor, a strengthened main gearbox, a new integrated piloting and display system and updated 1,800kW (2,400hp) Turbomeca Makila 1A2 based powerplants.
The deal increases the EC725/225 order backlog to 18 machines.
