Honeywell (Hall 5, A17) is reorganising its aerospace business to make it simpler and more customer focused.

The reorganisation will involve creating three new divisions devoted to air transport and regional aircraft (such as Boeing and Airbus), business jets and general aviation, and a unit focused on defence and space.

The move comes on 5 July; company officials expect the process to take until the end of the year to complete. Honeywell Aerospace spokesman Bill Reavis says the reorganisation is likely to result in job losses, but the number is unknown at this stage. The company currently employs 11,000 people in Arizona, USA, and 40,000 worldwide.

The Honeywell Aerospace business is currently organised by product group, including engines for business and regional aircraft and helicopters, avionics, wheels and brakes. The company does not expect to sell any of its core businesses as part of the reorganisation.

Honeywell Aerospace chief executive Rob Gillette says he decided to make the changes after talking with customers around the world who said that working with Honeywell was at times difficult.

"This will be a thoughtful process and one that makes our business simpler and more customer focused," Gillette says.

"It's a significant change, but it's one everyone, from customers and to those who work here, are behind and know is necessary to improve what we do and how we do it."
