Honeywell (Stand E712) is celebrating after winning a contract for flight management (FMS) and air data inertial reference systems (ADIRS) for Spanair's fleet of new Airbus A320 aircraft. Spanair has completed 30 firm orders and has 12 options for the new aircraft.
The Honeywell Pegasus FMS offers hardware and software commonality across multiple aircraft platforms for the first time, while its ADIRS offers airlines significant weight savings and improved reliability.
Change
"The new-generation Pegasus will give Spanair powerful new capabilities and performance features to take advantage of the merging Communications, Navigation, Surveillance/Air Traffic management (CNS/ATM) operating environment," says Marc Lienard, director of Honeywell's Airbus business segment.
The Pegasus FMS offers more than 25 times the throughput capacity and 16 times more memory than previous-generation FMS, making it ideal for the demanding CNS/ATM applications (also known as Free Flight) when adopted worldwide.
Pegasus has now been chosen by more than 40 airlines, including more than 20 Airbus operators. It is on schedule for certification on the A330/340 in February 2000 and on the A320 family in March 2001.
The Honeywell ADIRS combines the air data function with inertial reference, providing dual performance in less space.
