Hughes Electronics and TRW have teamed to bid for the US Air Force's Space-Based Infra-Red System (SBIRS) early-warning satellite. Hughes was released from its earlier teaming arrangement with Lockheed following the latter's merger with Martin Marietta. Two SBIRS pre-development contracts are scheduled to be awarded in June.
