Aero Design and Development (AD&D) of Israel is continuing to expand the operating envelope of its Hummingbird manned vertical- take-off and landing platform, which hovered for a few minutes for the first time recently. The craft is designed to carry its pilot for about 45min at altitudes of up to 820ft (250m), lateral and longitudinal control being achieved by the pilot leaning in the desired flight direction. It is powered by four single-cylinder piston engines. Its maximum speed will be around 40kt (75km/h).
