GERMANY AND Hungary have discussed the supply of former East German (GDR) armed forces' Mil Mi-24 Hind attack helicopters to the Hungarian air force.

The talks took place during a visit to Germany by Hungarian defence minister Gyorgy Keleti. Keleti held discussions with his German counterpart Volker Ruhe.

Following the talks, it was announced that Mi-24s would be made available for the Hungarian air force, although further negotiations will be needed.

Hungary has received ex-GDR equipment from Germany in the past, including 20 Aero Vodochody L-39 Albatros jet trainers. These aircraft are now at Kecskemet air force base for use in the advanced-training role.
