UK-based aerospace manufacturer Hyde Group and design, engineering and research company Amtri have set up a joint venture to offer technical consultancy services promoting supply-chain efficiency in airframe manufacturing. The new company will also design and manufacture special-purpose machinery and automation systems for the aerospace industry.
The founders say the Macclesfield, UK-based Hytri venture will appeal to aerospace manufacturers that will “increasingly turn to external contractors that possess the appropriate knowledge and skills”.
The use of advanced materials – such as composites – and construction methods mean that manufacturers need new approaches to design and manufacture, says Hyde Group managing director Stuart Wilson.
“In addition, as airframe structures become more sophisticated, skilled labour is becoming harder to recruit,” he adds.
Hyde Group and Amtri are collaborating on an automated drilling and fettling machine for Airbus Military’s A400M transport.
