The Israeli air force is testing the use of MP3 digital music players as a substitute for printed aircraft maintenance manuals under a pilot project at Ramat David airbase. Maintenance teams working on Lockheed Martin ?F-16 fighters have been equipped with high-capacity MP3 players loaded with verbal maintenance instructions, which the air force says “allows the technician to work with two free hands” during routine checks. Maintainers at all the air force’s bases will be equipped with MP3 players if the project proves successful.
