San Francisco wins Eagle

Cuts in terminal rents and landing fees helped San Francisco International airport win an IATA Eagle Award for its "outstanding performance in providing value for money". It was the only service provider to win an Eagle this year, with no air traffic service providers meeting the criteria. Honourable mentions, however, did go to Austria's Austro Control and the Air Navigation Service of the Czech Republic.

Spinetta elected IATA chair

Air France chairman Jean-Cyril Spinetta has been elected as the new IATA chairman for 2004-5, taking over from Japan Airlines chairman Isao Kaneko, who served for an extraordinary two years because of the industry crisis.

All carriers audited by 2006

IATA says it is targeting 2006 to have all member carriers registered on the IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) scheme. It is now offering IOSA to members and non-members for free.
