EUROPEAN PASSENGER traffic, will more than double by the year 2010, says a new International Air Transport Association (IATA) forecast.

More than 841 million passengers will be carried annually, says the Geneva-based organisation, against 400 million in 1993. Growth will total 4.5% a year, with 4.4% in Western Europe and 5.1% in Central and Eastern Europe.

The figures roughly agree with those of Eurocontrol. The Brussels-based organisation believes that instrument-flight-rules-only traffic will grow by 4.5% up to the year 2001, and by 3.5% to 2010.

Domination by France, Germany and the UK of scheduled international traffic, accounting for 73% of passengers, will drop as traffic from Eastern and Central European Countries increases.
