Information technology specialist SITA has modified its lost baggage tracing service for Chinese speakers, enabling local handling agents to be trained more quickly.
Chinese-connecting flights - both domestic and international - will account for nearly a quarter of the 877 million rise in worldwide passenger numbers over the five years to 2015.
SITA says this means effective luggage tracing will be needed to "ensure global passenger standards are maintained". It has developed its WorldTracer service, co-sponsored by IATA, to have agent interfaces and support materials available in Chinese as well as English.
"English is the official language of the industry," says SITA Asia-Pacific president Ilya Gutlin. "But we felt that localising WorldTracer for the Chinese market would speed its adoption in this growing region."
Passenger-facing WorldTracer services are already available in a dozen languages, with Chinese among them.
The Chinese adaptation will "dramatically reduce" training time for baggage agents for Chinese carriers and handlers, SITA says.
