International Lease Finance has confirmed details of a major leasing deal with Iberia, covering 16 A320 family aircraft. The Spanish flag carrier has signed for nine A319s and seven A320s, for delivery between May 1999 and September 2001, on five-year leases with extension options. The aircraft will be powered by CFM International CFM56-5s, in line with Iberia's 22 A320s and the 50 aircraft it has on order. The airline will speed up the phase-out of Boeing 727s and McDonnell Douglas DC-9s.
