Iberia will decide late this year or early in 2008 whether to order Airbus A350 XWBs or Boeing 787s for its long-haul fleet renewal programme, writes Kerry Ezard.
Iberia chairman and chief executive Fernando Conte says the airline is still evaluating the A350 XWB and the 787 and has yet to make a decision, although late last year Iberia said there could be a stronger case for the 787 due to the delayed launch of the A350 XWB.
In the meantime, Iberia will lease two Airbus A340-300s in June to help it raise long-haul capacity by 7.6% in 2007.
The original goal was to increase long-haul capacity by 2.9%, but this was adjusted as part of Iberia's 2006-8 business plan, which will cut domestic and European capacity by 11% and 2.5%, respectively.
