The Australian government has extended the deadline for pilots and employees at the country’s regional airports to display the new Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC). The three-month extension, to 31 March 2006, is because the implementation process has taken longer than expected, says the government. Its handling of the new security measures has already been criticised by the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. The extension only applies to those who submit their applications by 31 December and affects the 141 airports in the country that are required to issue ASICs for the first time.
