Accident A Pakistani Ilyushin Il-76MD freighter is the second aircraft this year to crash into mountains shortly after departure from Kabul, Afghanistan. The first was a Kam Air Boeing 737 that had carried out a missed approach on 3 February at Kabul in bad weather, and all 104 people on board were killed. The Royal Airlines Il-76 (4L-ZIL) was chartered to fly equipment from Bahrain in the Persian Gulf to Kabul and to the US military air base at Bagram, Afghanistan. Following its 11 November take-off from Kabul for Bagram the aircraft hit mountains about 30km (19 miles) north-west of Kabul, killing all eight people on board the aircraft.
