ESG is highlighting its AIMS (Advanced Integrated Mission Station). AIMS is all digital and specifically-designed for police helicopters and will be used by the Freistaat Thüringen.

The console and joystick controller are stowable for take off and landing, and thereafter the operator can position them to their liking.

Ingrid Haberl, account manager civil systems says: “This system is designed for the police and we makes the individual components much easier to use.

“It also has the AUTOPOL system which depending on your camera equipment, can recognise faces from 8km away,” she says.

The system integrates an infrared, TV and a thermographic camera system.  AUTOPOL is a software feature that uses the thermographic camera to detect people and mark vehicles from the air even when humans find it very difficult to see them. This is helpful in a missing person search in darkness or poor visibility, says the company.
ESG is also developing a process to allow speed measurement from the air.

Traditionally, radar measurements are made from a fixed position. With the movement of the helicopter most other technologies have failed.

According to the company this has generated great interest from police all over Europe.

The company says that if successful it would give police forces reliable evidence that could be used in court.
