An ‘easy to use’ telemetry touch screen display for aircraft is being launched at ILA by Stauff Systec developers of Fly Map moving map systems.

Besides using touch screen technology for its GPS navigation applications, the Fly Map L has also incorporated a full engine monitoring system on the same display.

“We have developed it to be the only moving map system where routes, flight logs, map updates and other data can be transferred between cockpit and computer quickly and easily with a USB memory stick.” says ceo Joerg Stauff.

A bright screen is another feature of Fly Map L, which, Stauff says is three times brighter than other cockpit displays.  “The ultra-bright display is over 1000cd/m² and can be read even in direct, bright sunlight,” says Stauff.

Customers are also offered options to add advanced functions such as an electronic version of Pooley's flight guide with the L/XL systems.

“Pilots now simply have to press their finger on an airfield to be able to view all of the information they will need. Also, because you can enter an almost unlimited number of checklists into Flymap you can ensure that everyone who flies the aircraft goes through the proper procedures too,” says Stauff.

The weather radar function keeps pilots abreast of the latest forecasts in the area. With weather downloading either via GSM, memory stick or sat phone, you can update the weather straight to the cockpit. And the system can download the weather radar images for the previous hour, which can then be animated to show the trend and give you a better idea of when and where to fly.

“Our sophisticated system also gives a visual indication of the height of surrounding terrain. The terrain display activates as soon as the height above ground falls below 500ft.” says Stauff.
