German aerospace company Ruag is resuming series production of the attractive Dornier 228 regional turbo-prop aircraft at its Oberpfaffenhofen site in Bavaria.

Dubbed the Dornier 228 ‘New Generation’, the re-born aircraft will join around 180 of the twins that are still flying from the 250 that were built at the Bavarian plant between 1982 and 2002.

Since type-certification and worldwide customer support was taken over by Ruag Aerospace in 2003, the technical and operational readiness of the entire fleet could be increased considerably.  And while final assembly, outfitting and equipment installation will continue at Oberpfaffenhofen, a trendsetting Indian-German deal will see primary structures (including fuselage, wings and tailplane) being made by Hindustan Aeronautics of Kanpur in the sub-continent.
