German president Prof Dr Roman Herzog will officially inaugurate the ILA '98 Berlin-Brandenburg airshow on 18 May.

Organisers promise the show will be bigger than ever, thanks to the addition of a ninth hall, which will add 3,000 sq m of display space for a total of 33,000 sq m. There is a further 2,000 sq m in the form of large display tents.

There will also be several conferences and seminars during the show, including a series of steering committees of international joint venture programmes (such as Eurofighter 2000, NH Industries' NH-90, Eurocopter's Tiger and Airbus's FLA/FTA). Top-level meetings by air force chiefs and armaments directors are expected, as well as working meetings of East-West armament commissions.

A new feature will be an event exclusively for the maintenance industry.
