Airbus may be more used to selling products worth hundreds of millions of dollars, but in a recession every penny helps.

However, the reasoning behind the manufacturer's decision to license an official air show merchandise shop for the first time at ILA probably has more to do with its desire to raise its profile with the public.

Hamburg-based retailer Brands Fashion, which specialises in selling branded merchandise for sports teams and beer companies, has secured the rights to sell Airbus branded goods at air shows worldwide. Brands Fashion produces branded clothing products on behalf of Airbus and sells them alongside aircraft models, mugs and luggage. It also runs the "Let's shop Airbus" online shop.
