Six companies have united at ILA to showcase the aerospace industry of Italy's Piemonte region, in the north-west of the country.

Manufacturing giant Alenia Aeronautica is joined in the effort by numerical controls specialist Fidia; Pola & Massa, which produces machines for surface treatment of printed circuit boards; Prima Industrie, a marketer of laser machines; SIME Societá, focused on precise mechanical parts and assemblies; and Tecnomeccanica Leinì, another machining service provider.

The Piedmontese presence - housed within the Italian pavilion - is promoted by the Turin chamber of commerce and managed by Torino Piemonte Aerospace.

At its stand, Alenia Aeronautica is exhibiting the Eurofighter model, the combat aircraft used by air forces in German, Italian, Spanish and UK, as well as its C27J tactical transport.

According to Torino Piemonte Aerospace, the region's aerospace industry employs about 10,000 people, with an annual turnover of around €2.5 billion ($3 billion). Among the other companies in the region are Avio, Microtecnica, Selex Galileo and Thales Alenia Space. Capabilities span metallurgy, mechanics, electromechanics, electronics and the manufacturing and processing of plastics, rubber and other materials.

Via its various constituents, the region's aerospace industry has a role in a plethora of major commercial and military programmes, including the AgustaWestland AW101, Airbus A320, A340-500/600 and A380, Alenia C27J, ATR 42, Boeing 767, 777 and 787, Dassault Falcon 2000 and EX, Eurofighter Typhoon and Eurocopter NH90.
