The ILA Berlin Air Show will take place in September 2012, as planned, despite the deferred opening of the German capital's new airport until next year.
The air show is to be held for the first time at a purpose-built site southwest of Berlin Brandenburg airport's new terminal complex, facing the southern runway.
This runway was meant to be opened with the planned inauguration of the airport on 3 June. But Brandenburg's airport operator revealed last week that the new hub will now be opened on 17 March 2013 as result of delayed building works.
The ILA organisers, German aerospace industries association BDLI, will request temporary permission to use the southern runway, relevant taxiways and two links to the northern runway - which is currently in use for the existing Schönefeld airport.
The southern runway will be used for takeoffs and landings for the air show, a spokesman for the organisers tells Flightglobal Pro.
"We expect that the regional administrations of Berlin and Brandenburg as well as the airport [Schönefeld] will remain committed to support ILA, and that the permission requests will be handled without difficulties," says BDLI managing director Dietmar Schrick.
ILA will be held as usual - including a static aircraft display and flying programme - from 11-16 September, according to BDLI.
