Ecuador's SAETA grounded

Ecuador's financial and political crisis has claimed SAETA and its domestic subsidiary, SAN, as victims. Both carriers cancelled all flights in early February amid reports that they were unlikely to recover. SAETA's condition worsened a year ago when an investor group discontinued its support for the struggling airline.

FAA gives 777 longer legs

The US Federal Aviation Administration says it will approve requests for Boeing 777s crossing the north Pacific to extend extended-range twinjet operations from 180min to 207min. The shorter routings this will allow, especially eastbound, could save carriers up to 45min flight time. Unless public comments change the FAA's mind, this change takes effect from March 21.

TWA/Air Malta code-share

Trans World Airlines and Air Malta have signed a codeshare agreement. The agreement will come into effect from May this year.
