Joint operations - Qantas Airways and British Airways are to merge commercial operations in Hong Kong from next April. The carriers say the new organisation is designated to integrate commercial operations such as telephone sales, ticketing and marketing. The two have joint operations in Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand. Cathay lease - Cathay Pacific Airways is also leasing three Airbus Industrie A340-300s from Air China for two years. The first is to be delivered by the end of October and the two others in November. The aircraft join 11 A340-300s at Cathay. The airline has ordered two Boeing 747-400 freighters, which are scheduled for delivery next September and August 2001. It owns nine other 747 freighters. Dash order - Japan's Air Nippon has ordered three 56-seat Bombardier Dash 8-Q300 turboprops for its regional operations. The airline, a subsidiary of All Nippon Airways, will operate the aircraft on routes between Tokyo's Haneda Airport and islands within Tokyo's domain, and for flights within Hokkaido, Japan's northernmost prefecture. Palestine bound - Palestinian Airlines has ordered two 50-seat Canadair Regional Jet CRJ-200s and two 50-seat de Havilland Dash 8-300Q turboprops. The carrier plans to increase the number of Middle Eastern destinations from six to eight with the addition of Larnaca and Istanbul.
