• Arianespace will in 2008 launch the Lockheed Martin-built Vinasat-1 for Vietnam Post and Telecommunications. The first Vietnamese telecommunications satellite, Vinasat-1 will be launched on an Ariane 5 during the first half of 2008 from the Guiana Space Center, in Kourou, French Guiana.
  • Russia launched a Proton DM booster from Baikonur on 17 June, carrying Kazakhstan’s first geostationary communications satellite, the $100 million Energia-built KazSat 1.
