Parachutes provide a short period of respite during the eardrum shattering racket of an air display.

And this is usually more than welcome - especially as many watchers are still suffering from that well-known complaint 'airshow-it is'.

As any old hand will tell you, this is usually brought on by a comination of a surfeit of sun, too much liquid refreshment and late nights in Paris.

Although this year's display is undoubtedly intersting, it perhaps lacks that little bit of extra frisson of excitement which regulars have come to associate with international ait shows.

Past events have featured displays which have been a talking point for years…with some entering into aviation mythology.

But there's nothing like that this year. No aerobatic teams…no cobra manoeuvres to marvel at…just good solid, demonstration flying.
