FlyI, the parent of troubled Independence Air, won $19.5 million in backing from GECAS that defers some aircraft rentals until May 2006, letting it avoid a looming bankruptcy. The loss-making, low-fares regional jet operator, formerly Atlantic Coast, will return between six and 10 50-seat Bombardier CRJs as it cuts routes dramatically. Independence has begun Airbus A319 flights as it diversifies from its regional jet only strategy.
