India’s cabinet committee on security has approved the limited series production by Hindustan Aeronautics (HAL) of 20 Aeronautical Development Agency Tejas light combat aircraft for an estimated Rp24 billion ($545 million), as well as approving a follow-on order for a further 20 Jaguar strike aircraft. The latter will be produced by HAL under a deal worth Rp24 billion. Indian navy British Aerospace Sea Harrier FRS51 fighters have, meanwhile, taken part in a bilateral exercise with the French navy, including the type’s first landings aboard the French aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle.
