Every airline in India has faced pilot shortages because of strong growth in the sector and the launch of new carriers (such as Kingfisher, which has ordered A380s, above), many of which have hired staff from established operators.

“Pilots are resigning without providing any notice to the airlines. In some cases, even groups of pilots resign together and airlines are forced to cancel flights,” says the Indian ministry of civil aviation.
