The Indian government has announced an Rp830 billion ($19 billion) defence budget for the fiscal year starting 1 April. The increased sum is expected to be used to finance a raft of acquisitions, including the Indian air force's planned purchase of 126 new medium strike aircraft and its ongoing purchases of BAE Systems Hawk 132Y advanced jet trainers and MiG-29K carrierborne fighters.
