Up to 25 Pratt & Whitney Canada PWC127-powered Ilyushin Il-114-100 turboprops could be destined for an Indian carrier following an agreement reached with Russian representatives marketing the type.
The Moscow-based firm Russkie Samolety says it reached a binding agreement with a prominent - although as-yet unidentified - Indian carrier during the India Aviation 2008 show in Hyderabad.
The TAPO plant in Tashkent is prepared to manufacture 25 of the "Westernised" Il-114-100s over the next 30 months.
"We've agreed on the quantity of aircraft and terms of supply and should sign a firm contract in three months," says founder and president Vladislav Pogrebnoy. "Each of us has made a commitment to pay a penalty for backing away from the deal."
