Antonov has offered India a military variant of its An-148-100 airliner as a rival to the Russian-Indian Medium Transport Aircraft (MTA) being developed from the Ilyushin Il-214. The An-148TD will have a 20t cargo capacity, a 2,500km (1,350nm) range and be powered by uprated D-436 turbofans, says Vyacheslav Boguslayev, director general of engine manufacturer Motor Sich. The MTA is being developed by Hindustan Aeronautics, Ilyushin and Irkut.
