Elbit Systems, Kazan and South Africa's Denel are expected to team to compete against Israel Aircraft Industries (IAI) for a deal to upgrade 80 Indian air force Mil Mi-8/17 Hips. Proposals are due to be submitted by 23 March. The two competitors are working on demonstrators, which are due to fly shortly after the tender closes. IAI is working with Hindustan Aeronautics. Indian requirements include an updated cockpit with multifunction displays, digital map, helmet mounted display and improved weapon system.
