Indonesia’s transport ministry has revoked Lion Air’s rights to operate 10 daily services on seven routes.
This comes after the low-cost carrier was found to have not operated the services for more than 21 days without notifying the ministry.
The affected routes are Surabaya-Ambon, Surabaya-Jakarta, Makassar-Jayapura, Makassar-Jakarta, Lombok-Jakarta, Jakarta-Jambi and Yogyakarta-Palangkaraya.
Although Lion has applied to restore services on some of these routes, the country's director general of civil aviation has turned down the request, citing the airline's non-adherence to the ministerial order issued in 2008.
An article in the order states that carriers who wish to suspend their services on a particular route for 21 days or more will have to notify the director general.
In the instance Lion Air wishes to resume the suspended services, it will have to make a fresh application, says the ministry.
