Indonesia's second state-owned carrier Merpati Nusantara has signed a letter of intent with Bank of America to acquire 10 ex-Continental Express ATR 42-320s through a lease purchase deal.

It has also agreed with other companies to purchase two de Havilland Canada Twin Otters and is looking to acquire another 10 Boeing 737 Classics as part of its fleet renewal programme. Merpati's head of corporate planning Tony Sudjiarto says Merpati aims to take delivery of eight ATRs this year and two next year. The ATRs and additional 737s will replace 727-200s, Fokker F27s and F28s.
