Honeywell has received US Federal Aviation Administration certification for its Boeing 747 nitrogen-based fuel inerting system. Honeywell’s NGS injects nitrogen-enriched air into an aircraft’s fuel tank to reduce flammability by displacing oxygen. The nitrogen-enriched air is produced by separating oxygen from conditioned engine bleed air through components supplied by Parker Aerospace. The US manufacturer says it is also certifying NGS for more Boeing aircraft as well as other commercial models. Honeywell has also been selected to provide a similar system for a US Navy aircraft under development.
