British Aerospace has successfully completed initial captive carry trials, of its Advanced-Short-Range-Air-to-Air Missile (ASRAAM), on a Lockheed F-16. During the tests, carried out from the US Air Force's Eglin AFB, Florida, the aircraft was flown at up to Mach 1.6 inside an envelope of +7g to -1.5g. The missile is also being examined under the US Department of Defense's foreign comparative test programme as a possible contender to meet its AIM-9X Sidewinder replacement programme.
