A new UK government initiative to boost skills and training for industry could begin operating next year.

The sector skills council for Science, Engineering and Manufacturing Technologies Alliance (SEMTA) is working with industry representatives to put together a plan for the Manufacturing Academy, which is expected to take around six months.

The academy is expected to provide some training itself while also streamlining and co-ordinating course and accrediting training bodies. The initiative is likely to help companies improve production processes and develop and implement new technologies, by ensuring people with the right skills are available, the SBAC says.
